3 Crafts For Children Aged 3 To 5 – Being Parents

Crafts for children from 3 to 5 years old are a good way to  develop children’s creativity  while having fun. Children are eager to experiment. And, as a mother, you should take advantage of this natural sense of curiosity to encourage their inventiveness.

However, it is not always easy to find the inspiration to  offer  handicrafts with whom your child exerts his mind. To resolve this conflict, we offer you some simple and creative ideas that will stimulate their imagination and entertain your child.

1. A manual activity with cardboard plates: cooking recipes

We therefore present the first activity to you. In it, the child will have everything he needs to emulate the grown-ups in the kitchen. You should help her  prepare a “meal” using pictures of food and other materials.

What is needed to do this?

• Old cooking magazines or food brochures.
• Scissors for children.
• Sheets of paper.

• Food coloring or powder paint or (optional).

How should we proceed?

• First ask your child to  cut out the pictures. Then he will have to discuss the foods represented.
• Then ask him  what foods interest him the most  and why he wants to include them in his meal.
• Finally, invite the child to  compose his own special dish  by pasting different pictures of food on the cardboard plates.

Use the different pictures for your child to compose his menu. If you want to give it a little imagination, you can also put a little food coloring in the white glue. Thus, the child can pretend that it is mustard, ketchup or sauce.

Once their  gourmet collages    are ready,  the child can integrate them into their fictional and imitation games. It can also be used as food for dolls and stuffed animals.

2. A manual activity with a shoebox: a fish aquarium

Aquariums lend themselves to a multitude of creative possibilities. From a shoebox,  you can recreate an underwater scene and simulate an aquarium full of cardboard fish. 

What is needed to do this?

• Aluminum foil or paint.
• Wool or rope.
• Cardboard to create your sea creatures.

• Ribbons, pebbles, beads and whatever else you want to incorporate into the aquarium.

How should we proceed?

• Help your child to completely paint the shoebox. Then cut two large rectangles from the long sides of the box. They will serve as windows to its wonderful aquatic world. You can use aluminum foil instead of paint to cover the box if you prefer.
• Create, decorate and cut everything needed for the aquarium. For example, seashells, treasures and fish. You can also  cut images from magazines or print images  that you find on the Internet. But make sure your sea creatures are always visible from both sides.
• Then make a hole in the top of each figure  and place a small piece of string in it.

• Then cover or paint the lid to go well with the rest. Then  use a pencil to make small holes in the lid, which will be used to hang the fish. Then pass the other end of the rope attached to your fish through the hole and tie it off.

3. A manual activity with cardboard: a garland of Easter bunnies

Finally, creating a garland of Easter bunnies,  an idea that will inspire you as the date approaches.

What is needed to do this?

• Cardboard paper in assorted colors.
• White cotton and buttons.
• A spool of cotton thread.
• Scissors.
• A pencil.
• Glue.
• A model of rabbits.

How should we proceed?

• First print out a bunny model  that you find on the Internet and help him cut it.
• Using the previously cut template,  trace the shape of the rabbit on the colored cardboard papers. Then cut the new lines.
• Create eyes with white cotton buttons and tails   and glue your pom poms on the rabbits you cut.
• Make a hole in the top of each bunny. Then, pass the cotton thread through the paper bunnies, alternating colors until you reach the desired length.
• Once you have done the above steps your pretty garland will be ready to hang.

Finally, it is necessary to underline that,  faced with a new activity, the child will generally be enthusiastic. This is a point that you should therefore use in your favor.
