Coronavirus: why is it good to maintain our daily routine?

The world is currently experiencing a pandemic caused by the infectious disease COVID-19. This is caused by a virus, which we all know as the coronavirus. And the outbreak of this virus has meant a major restructuring of people’s lives, priorities and needs. To deal with it, we must remain in confinement at home to prevent its spread.

In this sense, it is very important that we try to maintain our daily routine, despite the need to redefine daily life and have more free time in our homes.

Maintaining certain behaviors and attitudes in our daily life will help us get through the difficult circumstances we are experiencing in the best possible way. Our daily routine is essential to achieve greater organization. It is the only one able to bring peace and harmony within the house.

What is the routine? What about daily routines?

Routine (s) refers to habits or customs acquired as a result of repeating a task or activity. Thus, routines are practices which, over time, become almost automatic. Most of them are associated with specific procedures and timetables.

Therefore, a daily routine is the set of behaviors and behaviors that we adopt in our daily life. From sunrise to sunset. These are habits related to meal times, cleaning and rest. Or organizational habits for going to work, cleaning or shopping.

Benefits of routines

It is important that adults maintain certain daily routines and teach them to their children from an early age. Routines have advantages such as:

  • They are based on structure and organization, so that we can predict events. Thus, routines allow us to maintain greater control over the environment.
  • By allowing better control of the environment, routines give us greater security and greater confidence.
  • They help maintain appropriate levels of stress, tension and negativity in people who interact in a given environment.

Why is it good to maintain our daily routine in times of coronavirus?

As we have already shown, there are important benefits of maintaining our daily routine. And, even more, in these times of confinement caused by the presence of the coronavirus. Here are the advantages:

    • Establishing and sticking to certain schedules, such as bedtime and waking times, or meal times, helps the whole family to organize themselves. Thus, the whole family can share meal times and have a good rest.
    • It is good that certain hours are established to be connected to the Internet and social networks. It is not advisable to be permanently connected to your mobile phone or computer. Spending too many hours in front of a screen is negative for our eyesight and also increases the level of anxiety.
    • Mainly, in families where there are children, it is essential to maintain schedules and routines to promote their proper development. Children should not lose the habit of doing their homework every day, having fun and entertainment, eating at certain times and going to bed early.
    • It is clear that we cannot leave the house and that no one will come to visit us. However, it is important that we maintain personal hygiene. But also that of the house. Showering every day, taking off your pajamas and getting dressed, cleaning and tidying up the house… everything contributes to our good mood.
    • It is positive that leisure time is also relatively planned and controlled. So that they do not interfere with other aspects of our daily life, such as tidying up, meals or rest schedules that we have mentioned. Thus, it is very useful to set a specific time for reading, doing crafts or watching series. Note: watch series, but do n’t bing them.

In times of coronavirus, maintaining our daily routine is a blessing

It is clear that the confinement caused by the coronavirus has given us a lot more free time. And it’s not bad that we are spending some of that time resting, getting bored, and watching more movies than ever before.

However, we must avoid by all means that the confinement that we live in makes us lose track of time. This is what is dangerous, because it is what can cause us to be more agitated, negative and even sad.

We have to plan our day according to the different tasks or obligations. That is to say, to fulfill the tasks of the house, cleanliness and order. Fulfill our professional or school obligations, and finally, take care of social relations, that is to say, talking and being in contact with family and friends.

In these complicated times of our lives, it is important to be entertained, to stay active, alert and optimistic. And this is possible if we organize our daily life with schedules, activities and tasks. We must not postpone them until the next day. While in confinement, let’s not give up and keep our daily routine closed.
