How To Properly Clean The Bottle? – Being Parents

How to properly clean the bottle?

Any mother wants to perform her role as a mother to the best of her ability. Each of the tasks she must undertake involves a small challenge to be overcome in an appropriate manner.

For example,  knowing how to properly clean the bottle and disinfect other utensils  to feed the baby.

Much ink has been spilled regarding the proper cleaning of the bottle and other items frequently used by babies. Some myths have even developed. What is really true is the importance of keeping these items away from bacteria.

We must remember that babies have not yet finished developing their immune systems. This is why it cannot yet naturally defend itself against possible bacteria. By putting everything in their mouths, they are exposed to many risks of infections.

For this reason, the deep cleaning of each element cannot be left to chance. This is especially true for the baby’s first months.

How to properly clean the baby’s bottle?

Many techniques exist to properly clean the bottle and teats. However, there is no perfect formula for this task. There is also no manual that tells you what to do and what not to do when washing these utensils.

However, we must take into account that after feeding the child,  we must clean the bottle to remove the remains of food. We thus avoid the multiplication of microorganisms dangerous for the health of the child.

Sterilization is a controversial subject when it comes to the hygiene of bottles and teats. Some argue that this process is not that important and that a little soap and water is enough. However, sterilization is sometimes necessary, especially when using these utensils for the first time.

A bottle sterilizer

We can practice two simple methods to sterilize the bottle.

With a microwave

To carry out this process,  it is necessary to have a special microwave sterilizer. This is nothing more than a container with holes in the top or in the base. Water is added to it and the parts that you want to sterilize are introduced.

Before using this method, we must check that the bottle does not have a triangle with the letters “PA”. Those who have these letters can be damaged with this type of sterilization.

With cold

To implement this technique, it is essential to use specific products. These can be found in different presentations, such as lozenges or liquids.

These dissolve in boiled water. When the time indicated on the instructions has passed, the bottle is removed and it is rinsed with cold water.

It is not recommended to use the same tablets for multiple applications. We must use a new one each time we apply this process.

Cleaning only with soap and water, is it sufficient?

This is the most effective and common method for mothers. Indeed, we already have the materials and in quantity. It is also simple and practical.

As soon as the baby has finished eating, the bottle should be washed so that the remains of food do not stick. The same goes for the pacifier and its cap.

When cleaning the bottle, you should rub the sponge with dish soap all over,  especially the ring and the edges. These places contain a lot of residue.

There are special brushes for this task. Thanks to their shape, they can clean places that are impossible to reach with the hand and the sponge.

Bottles that have been sterilized

At the end of washing, it is best to let all the parts dry in a cool place at room temperature. They can be placed upside down so that they drip properly. This avoids the use of kitchen towels to dry them.

Indeed, these can contain microorganisms that could make the baby sick.

When everything is completely dry,  all parts of the bottle are stored in a dry place. If the baby has more than one bottle, we need to do the same process with all of them. We thus ensure the absence of germs and bacteria.

Finally,  remember that there is no set protocol for how to properly clean the bottle. However, you can write down some ideas or tips and adapt them to your possibilities.

Keep in mind that there are some very economical options that will also help you maintain optimal hygiene for all of your baby’s utensils.
